Living The High Life

People often ask me what I do in my spare time. For the past year I have been renovating my new house in Chesterfield, which is progressing gradually and beginning to look like the home I have in my head! So when I'm not working, I'm generally doing DIY up a ladder, frequently wearing a pair of grubby decorator's overalls and (if it's hot) a bikini underneath.

I spend a lot of time up ladders, so I was very happy to have the opportunity to climb one recently in a studio in Kennington for a shoot with Stuart Bentley. It's like home from home!

Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird - Wallace Stevens

Among twenty snowy mountains,
The only moving thing
Was the eye of the blackbird.

I was of three minds,
Like a tree
In which there are three blackbirds.

III
The blackbird whirled in the autumn winds.
It was a small part of the pantomime.

IV
A man and a woman
Are one.
A man and a woman and a blackbird
Are one.

I do not know which to prefer,
The beauty of inflections

Icicles filled the long window

It marked the edge
Of one of many circles.

At the sight of blackbirds
Flying in a green light,
Even the bawds of euphony
Would cry out sharply.

He rode over Connecticut
In a glass coach.
Once, a fear pierced him,
In that he mistook
The shadow of his equipage
For blackbirds.

The river is moving.
The blackbird must be flying.

It was evening all afternoon.
It was snowing
And it was going to snow.
The blackbird sat
In the cedar-limbs.

Blue, like the skies beyond,

merging into a
new mailbox.

Vacant space,
a mailbox stands alone
on barren land.

Darkest night,
a moonbeam reflects
from the mailbox.

A boat,
faring turbulent seas
to distant mailboxes.

A broken heart,
delivered to
an empty mailbox.

Flowers grow,
life springs from
an open mailbox.

But flowers die
and crumble from
a closed mailbox.

The road
is clearly visible
from a prison mailbox.

A river of dreams,
cascading from
a leaking mailbox.

Cobwebs creep,
demon swarming
over a peeling mailbox.

Sun sets behind
the silhouette
of a leaning mailbox.

Lightning strikes,
rain drips from
a broken mailbox.

A creature stirs,
a child is kicking
an old, old mailbox.

If you had lived...

They say that some things are just not meant to be,
But nevertheless, you were special to me.
'You' were my hopes, and my future plans,
I imagined my world in your tiny hands.

In my thoughts, I had held you,
Pictured who you might be,
And I felt that I knew you,
Though you never knew me.

For weeks, you provided my secret smile,
And I'm proud that I carried you 'round, for a while.
I'd like to believe you are safe, up above,
But if you had lived - you would have been loved.
